Game Projects

Definitely a nebulous project right now, but I have an interesting idea in my head.

Basic Stuff

  • NIFE-like mmo with infinite rooms, which are procedurally and/or fractally generated similarly to Lootopia or Pumpkin Game 2022. Only changes are saved to the database, along with player data.

  • The goal is to find and defeat other players. You're a mage and so are they.

  • Not sure what the magic mechanics are, but they're definitely item-based -- you find various items in the game, transform them, and use them. Things like wands/scrolls/spell crystals make sense. You should be able to set traps of various kinds, enchant stuff with illusions, etc.

  • Actions-based like Pumpkin Game 2022 -- 3 a turn without upgrades (or enchantment-based downgrades). Not sure on the timing of this -- maybe once or twice a day so the game is ongoing for some time.

  • The infinite nature of the game is probably gate-locked so players don't just spread way out to avoid interaction.

  • Not sure what combat looks like, but you should be able to respond back and forth and the timing should be based on overall availability, so there could be daily combat sessions or it could be rapid-fire depending on who's on when. Ideally players can set something up for mutual benefit. Failing to respond to combat allows the other player to attack you easily or may even just automatically count as a loss. Players that are totally inactive drop their hearts and go into stasis so they can't be interacted with. Or some kind of Beards system makes sense here as well.

  • Events that do certain things if things are going off the rails in some way or the playerbase is complaining too much. There'll be warning of this happening at least.

  • I definitely like the social aspect of the old adventure engine -- people should be able to talk and form teams or w/e.

  • A fixed playerbase from the outset. Whoever's playing should 3 "Magic Hearts". When they die, they get teleported elsewhere and give away one of their hearts to the other player. You can play without magic hearts but you have to defeat other players to get them back.

  • The goal is to gain a certain amount of magic hearts and insert them somewhere.
